Products we use: Radiesse
Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a gel. The gel provides the lift you see straight away. As it is absorbed, the microspheres act as a scaffold that your skin builds collagen around, so the support that replaces the gel is partly your own tissue. That combination is why it sits between a straight filler and a pure collagen stimulator like Sculptra.
It is a firmer product than most hyaluronic acid fillers, which makes it well suited to areas that need structure: the jawline, the chin, and deeper support in the cheek. It is also used on the backs of the hands, where volume loss shows tendons and veins in a way people notice long before they mention it. It is not used in lips, and it is not our first choice for the delicate skin under the eye.
Radiesse is not reversible in the way hyaluronic acid is. There is no enzyme that dissolves it. That places more weight on assessment and placement, and it is a reason to start conservatively. If reversibility matters to you, say so, and we will talk about a hyaluronic acid option instead.

Your provider assesses the area, applies numbing, and places the product. Radiesse contains lidocaine in some formulations and can be mixed with additional anesthetic. You see correction immediately. Swelling and bruising are normal for a few days, and the collagen-driven part of the result builds quietly over the following months.
A hyaluronic acid filler is the volume you see. Radiesse gives you volume immediately and then leaves behind a scaffold your own collagen builds around, so part of the eventual result is your tissue rather than the product.
No. There is no enzyme that reverses it, unlike hyaluronic acid fillers. That is worth weighing before treatment and is a reason to start with a conservative amount.

It is comparable to other injectable treatments. Numbing cream is applied first and anesthetic can be mixed into the product. Most people find it very tolerable.
