Hyaluronic acid filler restores volume in the cheeks, tear troughs, and folds, rebuilding structure that thins with age.
Dermal filler replaces volume that thins with age, which is what lifts a flat cheek, softens the folds from the nose to the mouth, and fills a hollow under the eye. We place hyaluronic acid fillers from the Restylane and Juvederm families at our Boca Raton med spa, under the supervision of our medical director. Most appointments take 30 to 60 minutes. Faces do not simply wrinkle as they age. Fat pads shrink and shift downward, bone changes shape, and the support under the skin gives way. That is why a cream cannot fix a hollow temple and why tightening the skin alone can make a face look drawn. Filler rebuilds the support, and once the structure is back the surface usually follows.
Hyaluronic acid is a sugar your body already makes and uses to hold water in the skin. The fillers are a stabilized gel version of it. Two things follow from that. It draws in water, so a treated area keeps a soft, hydrated look rather than a hard one. And it can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if you dislike the result or a correction is needed, which is a safety margin the permanent fillers do not offer.
Cheeks and midface for lift, tear troughs for under-eye hollowing, nasolabial folds and marionette lines, the jawline and chin for definition, and the temples where hollowing quietly ages a face more than most people expect. Lips are their own conversation and have their own page. Some of these areas, particularly the under-eye, are technically demanding and are not right for everyone. We would rather tell you that at consultation than treat you and manage the result afterward.

If your main issue is skin quality rather than volume, filler is the wrong tool and we will say so. Gradual collagen stimulators such as Sculptra and Radiesse rebuild support over a series of sessions instead of adding it in one visit, and they suit some faces better. A consultation exists to work out which of those applies to you.
What suits you is decided at consultation, from your skin and your history. Consultations are complimentary.
Treatment starts with an assessment of your face at rest and in movement, because volume is judged in three dimensions rather than from a single photo. Numbing cream is applied, and most fillers also contain lidocaine. Product is placed in small amounts and assessed as it goes. You see a change immediately, though it is not the final result: swelling in the first few days is normal, and the filler settles over about two weeks. Bruising is possible, particularly around the mouth and eyes.
It depends on the product and the area. Fillers in areas that move constantly, such as around the mouth, break down faster than fillers placed deep on the cheekbone. Your injector will give you a realistic range for the specific product used on you rather than a single headline number.
It looks obvious when too much is placed in one visit or when the wrong area is treated. Building gradually across two appointments produces a better result than trying to correct everything at once, and we would rather do that than hand you a face you have to explain.
Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, an enzyme injected in the same way. That is one of the main reasons we work with hyaluronic acid products rather than permanent ones.
You can go back to normal activity the same day, but plan around visible swelling and possible bruising for a few days. If you have an event coming up, book at least two weeks ahead.
Swelling, bruising and tenderness are common and settle. The serious risk is filler entering a blood vessel and blocking blood supply, which is rare and is why injector training, product choice and technique matter more than price. Any pain that keeps increasing, skin that changes color, or any change in vision needs an immediate call to us.
