Four things going wrong at once
Excess oil, dead cells that do not shed and block the follicle, bacteria that multiply in that blocked environment, and the inflammation that follows. A treatment that only addresses one of the four rarely clears skin. That is also why scrubbing harder backfires: stripping the barrier prompts more oil and more inflammation, and the skin ends up both irritated and still breaking out.
What we can do in a med spa
Professional extractions clear existing congestion without the scarring that comes from doing it yourself in a bathroom mirror. Salicylic acid peels get into the pore because salicylic acid is oil-soluble, which is what makes it the right acid for congestion rather than glycolic. Microdermabrasion and regular facials manage surface build-up. Alongside that, a routine that suits your skin matters more than any single appointment.
What suits you is decided at consultation, from your skin and your history. Consultations are complimentary.
When to see a dermatologist instead
Deep, painful nodules and cysts under the skin, acne that is already leaving marks or scars, and acne that has not responded to consistent treatment need prescription management, and sometimes systemic medication. That is a dermatologist's job, not a facial's. We will tell you when that is what you need. Treating cystic acne with surface treatments while it scars is how people end up needing scar treatment years later.

Do not treat the marks while it is still active
The brown or red marks left after a spot clears are post-inflammatory pigmentation, and they fade on their own over months if nothing new appears. Chasing them with aggressive treatment while acne is still active adds inflammation, which is what caused them. Settle the acne first, then treat what is left. And use sunscreen, because ultraviolet exposure darkens those marks and makes them last far longer.
