Mechanical rather than chemical
A peel dissolves the bonds between surface cells with acid. Microdermabrasion removes them physically, using a fine abrasive tip or crystals with suction. The end point is similar and the experience is not. There is no stinging, no timed application and no flaking afterward, which is why it suits people who cannot take any downtime or who react badly to acids.
